Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Oak spice, dark tobacco, rich baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla), licorice, raisins, and chocolate. As the glass breathes, there are impressions of fruity oranges, canned apricots, and crushed walnuts.
- Palate: Light caramel sweetness with a creamy mouthfeel. Oak spice, orange marmalade, caramel toffee, oak, and baking spices (vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg) meld together. Additional flavors include milk and bitter chocolate, walnuts, pecans, Oolong tea, sweet cola, and frangipani.
- Finish: Short but enjoyable. Oak spice tempered by sweet butterscotch and a hint of menthol. Residue of oak and oak spice, orange peel, cinnamon, and raisin.
Curiosity:
- The rum undergoes a final aging process in France where the spirit is rested in used cognac barrels in the cellars of Les Bienheureux.
- It has been aged for 11 years in total: eight years in ex-Bourbon casks in the tropics, followed by three years in White Pineau "Ferrand" casks.
History:
El Pasador de Oro XO is a blend of 'grand XO' Guatemala rums aged from 6 to 15 years in oak barrels at selected Guatemalan distilleries. The rum undergoes a final aging process in France, resting in used cognac barrels. This meticulous aging process results in a rum that is both complex and smooth, offering a rich array of flavors that make it a favorite among enthusiasts.
