Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Rich indications of fine oak spice and treacle alongside damp tobacco, orange peel, and rich baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla). There are also hints of resin and tar.
- Palate: Soft yet spicy with a combination of fine oak and baking spices carried forward by a light butterscotch sweetness. Flavors of orange peel, dark caramel toffee, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, tar, resin, and a light impression of menthol are present. There are also hints of dark chocolate, toasted walnuts, and root beer.
Curiosity:
- El Pasador de Oro Gran Reserva is a product of Les Bienheureux S.A.S. in Paris, France.
- The rum is a blend of 'grand reserva' Guatemala rums and is rested in used cognac barrels in the cellars of Les Bienheureux.
- There is no specific age statement, but the rum is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume.
History:
El Pasador de Oro Gran Reserva is a new rum brand brought into Western Canada by Charton Hobbs. The rum, like other Guatemalan rums, is somewhat on the sweeter side but offers a rich and complex flavor profile that is enjoyed by many. The rum's aging process in used cognac barrels imparts unique flavors and characteristics to the spirit, making it a favorite among rum enthusiasts.
